Theme: “Pan Africanism and the African Renaissance”
The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts & Culture inconjuction with Sundays River Valley Local Municipality through its Directorate museum and heritage is hosting the Provincial Africa Day celebrations 2013. The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture has a responsibility of observing Africa Day celebrations every year. Africa Day is the annual commemoration on 25 May of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963. On this day, leaders of 30 of the 32 independent African states signed a founding charter in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In 1991, the OAU established the African Economic Community, and in 2002 it established its own successor, the African Union.
